Taiwo Akinola, 29, was on Sunday arrested for allegedly attempting to murder his mother, Mrs Alice Iyabo Akinola, for a money-making ritual. Taiwo was arrested after his nephew, Faruk, raised an alarm upon seeing his grandmother covered in blood in their home at No.2 Raji Ajanaku street, Alaja Road, Ayobo, Lagos. According to a press statement made available by the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, the incident happened on Sunday. The statement revealed that Taiwo, who is believed to be a cultist had wanted to take his internet fraud business to an advanced level, known as “yahoo plus” and killing his mother would have helped him achieve that. Blessing Amam was a final year student in the Department of Theatre Arts, who was expected to graduate in August. It was learnt that she slept in her hostel room with her lover on Sunday but both of them could not wake up the next day (Monday). A neighbour, who craved anonymity, said it was the smell from the deceased room that alerted other occupants who had returned from school that something was wrong. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wants N6bn to feed policemen during the 2019 polls. This is contained in the budget for the polls presented to the House of Representatives by INEC. INEC had in 2015 requested for N120 billion for the general election and is now requesting for N189.2 billion to conduct the 2019 polls. The proposed budget for 2019 election budget has an increase of about N69 billion compared to the 2015 election budget. Police in Ondo State have revealed that the suspected kidnapper who slept off while planning to abduct a renowned pharmacist in the state, is still sleeping, almost a week after. c Femi Joseph, spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, said the suspect was attempting to abduct the owner of the Chinery Pharmacy in Owo, when he was arrested on Sunday.
